Day Conference: Words in Mind: Understanding Bibliotherapy - Tues 26th March
As part of this year's Huddersfield Literature Festival, we are delighted to be hosting our first Words in MInd conference exploring bibliotherapy and how books and reading can be used to improve wellbeing for those with mental health problems and dementia and their carers.
During the day you'll:
hear experts in the field, including Dr Liz Brewster, Non-Clinical Lecturer in Medical Education at Lancaster University and Dr Sarah McNicol, Research Associate at Manchester Metropolitan University, co-editors of Bibliotherapy, which looks at both the history of therapeutic reading, and the different models, theories and approaches
hear from Alan Johnson MP, former Home Secretary, Health Secretary and Education Secretary on the importance of reading, ahead of his headline slot at the festival talking about his memoirs
take part in a choice of workshops exploring how you can deliver sessions to particular target groups
see examples of the free resources available from Kirklees Libraries
find out more about Words in Mind and its Lottery funded work in Kirklees, and how you can get involved
The event is aimed at professionals working in the fields of health care, social care, dementia and mental health, and those who would like to find out more about how literature and both written and spoken words can be used to improve wellbeing.
Lunch is included.
